Choose a toothbrush with a small head for better access to the back teeth and soft bristles which are kind on your gums. Toothbrushes should be changed 3 to 4 times a year. Older people with arthritis or other problems may have trouble holding a toothbrush or using floss, some people find it easier to use an electric toothbrush and some simply put a bicycle grip or foam tube over the handle of a regular toothbrush to make it easier to hold. It is advisable that you should make a habit of brushing at least twice a day.

Mouthwash: - Do Not use alcohol containing mouth wash as it destroys good bacteria in your mouth and alcohol free mouthwashes only provide false sense of freshness. The best mouthwash is available in your own kitchen i.e. warm saline water. It is best for the teeth and gums. Do it two times a day soon after brushing.
Food: - that we eat also plays a vital role in keeping our mouth healthy. Hard crunchy food like apples, pears etc. helps to remove any food particle stuck in-between the teeth and also it removes the debris layer formed on the teeth, so eating a crunchy fruit after meals keeps our mouth and our body healthy. We must also include calcium supplements in our diet like Milk, curd & cheese. Eating cheese increase the ph of the mouth which helps in protecting the tooth enamel. Ensure that your diet is teeth-friendly.
Drinks: - Avoid Soft drinks and a lot of fruit juices as these are acidic in nature and acid is not good for our teeth. But it is advisable to drink water frequently not just it hydrates our body and remove harmful chemicals from our body water also lowers the viscosity of the saliva which helps in protecting our teeth.
Fluoride: - helps in fighting cavities as it replenishes the enamel with minerals which are lost due to acid attack. Tea, raisins and tap water are very good source of it but we must take care as too much of it does harm than good. In India, tap water in many areas is already having excess of it which can cause the bone and teeth problems.
Sugar and sticky food like candy and chocolates tend to stick with the teeth and gums which is an attraction for germs and which in turn damages the teeth.
Alcohol & Tobacco stains the teeth and significantly increases the risk of gum disease and oral cancer. If you smoke or chew tobacco, kindly consider it quitting. This will be a big favor to your teeth and this will also save you from the countless ill effects caused by the agents used to mask the smell of tobacco.
Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food. If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you put your teeth at risk of chipping or even breaking.
Regular Dental Check-ups: - Your own everyday habits are crucial to your overall oral health. Still, even the most dutiful brushers and flossers need to see a dentist regularly.
